Psychotherapy vs. medication

The two main treatments for anxiety include psychotherapy and medication. Some people benefit from a combination of the two, and it may take some trial and error to discover which treatments work best. Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, involves working with a therapist to reduce your anxiety symptoms. Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on specific skills to help manage your worries and allow you to slowly return to the everyday activities that you may have avoided because of anxiety. If you plan on using medication be sure to talk to your doctor about the benefits and possible side effects. Antianxiety medication can be used in order for PTSD, panic disorder, social anxiety, and anxiety attacks. Medication include Xanax, Librium, Ativan, and Valium. However, there are natural medications that can be taken such as herbs and acupuncture. Either methods can help treat anxiety and it depends on which works best for you.
